Description of the Video

The goal of this video was to present a complete picture of Matrix, not just his actiony violent side but also the affection he feels for the people in his life. This pre-first draft is about 2/3 finished so contains a lot of blank spots.

If You Are New To ReBoot

Enzo Matrix was once an innocent little boy like most little boys. When his home was attacked he was forced to step up and try to defend it. He ended up getting trapped with his girlfriend AndrAIa in the game cubes, brutal contests that forced him to become hard and violet. When he was finally able to return home he had a lot of anger in him, but at heart was still just a boy who wanted the approval of his big sister, Dot, and his childhood hero, Bob.

And this Matrix came well before that other Matrix so there is no connection between the two.

The Making of the Video

I normally don't take other people's ideas. Making a music video is a lot of work and a I have feel it to make it work. When Julia Cat sent me an email suggesting "It's My Life" for a Matrix, I sent her back a "yeah, sure" blowoff email. However I listened to the song and immediately could see scenes of Matrix playing through my head. I was hooked.

I found a copy of the lyrics. "Tommy and Gina" had to be Frisket and AndrAIa. That one shot of them I use at "...who never backed down" isn't that great - the shot is distorted like it's through a fisheye lens. However it's the only one I was able to find that showed all three of them facing off against an enemy.

Those who know my work know I like to tie action to the music. This has a lot of good "boom-boom" moments for Matrix's punching and shooting. I particularly like the one of him punching Megabyte after "...shout it out loud."

"My heart is like an open highway" seemed like a good spot to put tender moments between him and his loved ones. Conveniently, there are four of those lines and four people: AndrAIa, Dot, Bob, and Frisket.

Like so many songs, this has an instrumental section in the middle. Those are hard to fill but I did the same thing I did in my Dot video - shots of Matrix looking weird.

This unfinished first draft is about 2/3 done so be prepared for lots of blank shots with embedded timing codes. It does give you a glimpse into the video process and you can see how I filled in most of the dramatic moments and it just needs filler for the rest.

This is a lot briefer than my normal video notes, but since I haven't done any real work on this in over two years it's a little hard to remember what I was thinking.
